Honors work in the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) is designed to foster intellectual curiosity and to provide a rich, diverse, and challenging educational experience. To that end, we bring professors and talented students together in a variety of ways:  by offering a broad range of Honors courses on a regular basis (including some Honors courses with limited enrollments); by providing extensive opportunities for Honors students to participate in individual projects with professors; and by providing a wide range of supplementary activities through "The Honors Experience."

Opportunity

The College of Liberal Arts (CLA) Honors Experience at Purdue University provides both intellectual and cultural opportunities.  The Honors Program enables students to participate in superior and unique coursework, and offers benefits to better enhance students’ time at Purdue University.  CLA Honors students enjoy such benefits as smaller classes, a chance to develop a deeper understanding of coursework, early registration, and classes with other highly motivated and talented students.

Special Projects

Honors students are encouraged to develop special projects with professors, which permit them to learn in a more direct and personal fashion.  They also have regular opportunities to meet formally and informally with leading scholars at the university and with important visiting speakers.  Many of Purdue’s CLA Honors students begin to participate in the professional worlds of their chosen fields before they leave the university, making presentations and giving papers before national organizations.

Activities

Each year, the CLA Honors Program sponsors several activities.  The program holds an annual colloquium each spring.  Special trips are arranged for Honors students to enjoy events in nearby cities – to share art exhibits, theatre, musical and dance performances, as well as lectures at other universities.  Another unique aspect of the program is that it offers CLA Honors students vouchers for select Purdue Convocations events.

The CLA Honors Program strives on every front to lead its students to a broader understanding of the world outside the university and to introduce its students to professional life.
