WISH-TV

How has your internship helped build skills and clarify your career goals?

My internship at WISH-TV has shown me what the life of a reporter is truly like. Each day, I am able to work alongside some of the best in the business under the same deadline of the 5 p.m. newscast. I've learned so much about writing, editing, and storytelling throughout my summer.

How do you apply your Liberal Arts skills in your internship?I have been able to apply much of what I have learned in my multi-platform journalism and Fast Track News magazine classes throughout my internship.

Describe your typical day as an intern.

My typical day consists of starting in the morning meeting, deciding which reporter I want to work with for the day, going with the reporter to shoot interviews, coming back to the station, writing my own script, editing my own story, and then submitting my story to my supervisor.

What was the most challenging aspect of your internship?

The most challenging aspect of my internship was probably adjusting to the systems that WISH-TV uses and learning how to use them efficiently.

What was the most exciting thing about your role?

The most exciting part about being a news intern is that every day is different. I get to go out and meet new people and learn new things every day, and I never know what the next day will bring.

What surprised you most about your internship?

What surprised me the most about my internship was how much it solidified my desire to go into broadcast news. I thoroughly enjoy getting up and going into work every day.

Describe the most meaningful experience you had as an intern.

One of the most meaningful experiences I have had as an intern has come from covering a story and the story subject feeling truly thankful for us being there in order to share their story. Being able to tell people's stories is what makes the job so rewarding.
