How has your internship helped build skills and clarify your career goals?

The internship helped me build interpersonal skills as I communicated with research participants, professors, colleagues and graduate students. Further, this internship allowed me to practice and strengthen my language skills as well as professionalism in a range of situations.

How do you apply your Liberal Arts skills in your internship?

I apply my Liberal Arts skills in my internship by evaluating the task at hand, asking the relevant questions and choosing the best strategy to complete the task. I also use my skills to audit documents to ensure correctness when implementing a new study as well as expediting the process by helping to translate documents from English to Spanish.

What is the a typical day like as an intern, any challenging or exciting aspects?

My typical day as an intern varied, but consisted of making calls to research participants, entering data into government and university database, translating documents into Spanish, conducting data analysis on a meta-analysis project, and meeting with the principal investigator. The most challenging aspect of my internship was educating myself on the relationship interventions offered by the study and the relevant research behind each methodology in order to become proficient enough to answer participants' questions as well as conduct analyses on findings. The most exciting aspect of my role was engaging with participants and hearing about the positive benefits that the relationship intervention had on their relationships with their significant others. The most surprising aspect about my internship was the amount of work that I was able to accomplish in a short amount of time, which also impressed my supervisors. The most meaningful experience that I had as an intern was when I was able to see my translation work being used for the second wave of the study, which began this summer.
