Limited Submission: NEH Summer Stipends

NEH Summer Stipends support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Recipients usually produce articles, monographs, books, digital materials, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, or other scholarly resources. Summer Stipends support projects at any stage of development, providing $6,000 for continuous full-time work on a humanities project for a period of two months.

The presubmission competition is open to all tenured and/or tenure-track faculty. (NOTE: Non-tenure-track faculty, adjunct faculty, staff, retired faculty, community college faculty, and independent scholars are NOT eligible to apply.)

Individuals who have held or been awarded a major fellowship or research grant or its equivalent within the three academic years prior to the deadline are ineligible. A “major fellowship or research grant” is a research award that provides a stipend of $15,000.00 or more. Sabbaticals and grants from an individual’s own institution (as well as stipends and grants from other sources supporting study and research during the summer) are not considered major fellowships.
