College of Liberal Arts Faculty Mentoring Incentive Program Fall 2022

Description:

To enhance the current departmental/school faculty mentoring system and to foster professional networking among colleagues at different professorial ranks for promotion and tenure (P/T), the Dean’s office is pleased to continue the Faculty Mentoring Incentive Program with hospitality allowance to provide engagement opportunities for mentors and mentees. This program intends to help early and mid-career faculty to maximize their networking opportunities with senior faculty for professional guidance.

 

Mentors:

All tenured associate and full professors, clinical/teaching/practice associate and full professors, and department/school heads in CLA who agree to serve as mentors. Mentors are expected to:

  1. Discuss and present their mentee(s) in third year and P/T review (contract renewals for clinical/ teaching/practice faculty) at primary committee
  2. (optional) Prepare a written report annually for the head on the mentee(s)’ progress.
  3. Help review their mentee(s)’ promotion documents and other pertinent P/T materials.
  4. (optional) Be invited by their mentee(s) to attend the annual meeting with the head to discuss overall progress.

Mentees:

All tenure-track assistant professors and clinical/teaching/practice assistant professors are required to have a mentor(s) at the associate or full level, and associate professors with tenure, clinical/teaching/practice associate professors are strongly encouraged to have a mentor(s) at the full level. Mentees are expected to:

  1. Prepare documentation for discussions.
  2. Seek advice from mentor(s) on professional advancement.
  3. Keep mentor(s) updated on overall progress in discovery, learning, engagement, and student mentoring.
  4. Set up in-person social events (meal/coffee/tea) with the mentor(s).

Incentive:

A $150 hospitality allowance will be provided to each mentee to be used throughout the current academic year for a pair/group of mentor(s)-mentee(s). Please contact your dept/school business office to check out a hospitality card. Mentees will need to provide the name(s) of their mentors to the business office at the time of card check-out and mention that the upcoming event is supported by CLA Faculty Mentoring Incentive Program.
