Emerging Leaders Scholars Program

Emerging Leader Scholars within the College of Liberal Arts will experience a hands-on, multifaceted, curricular, and co-curricular scholars’ program that will enhance academic success, instill leadership skills, and prepare students for future careers. This journey begins the summer of acceptance and continues through to graduation. Each year features unique opportunities to earn academic credits, build community, and gain professional skills and experiences.

ELS Program Journey

Fully Funded Participation in Summer Start (up to $4000 value)

Kick start your undergraduate career in this 8-week residential program. The Summer Start program for Emerging Leader Scholars include:
  • 9 credits
  • tuition and housing included with meal plan
  • 9 Liberal Arts courses to choose from including Sociology, Communications, Women & Gender Studies, History, and Political Science)

Virtual Study Abroad Experience

Can’t travel this summer, don’t worry because the Liberal Arts Virtual Study Abroad Experience will allow you to connect with international faculty and students in the partnership with la Universidad de Cartagena.

Assigned Peer Boiler Mentor

Don’t worry, you will not be alone in this experience. Each student is assigned a peer mentor to help them navigate the program successfully.

Engage with World-Renowned Faculty

Interact with diverse faculty from various disciplines across the college to foster professional and academic relationships.

Community Building

Connect with multicultural students from all over to develop lifelong relationships and social networks.

Cohort Living-Learning Community in Harrison Hall

Learn and live with a diverse group of scholars from across the country in the Harrison Hall Emerging Leaders Learning Community.

General Studies 195

In this 8-week course, students will learn foundational skills and principles of academic research necessary to participate in a research fellowship with Liberal Arts faculty.

Take a moment to enjoy the view while uncovering the artistic contributions of multicultural artists in local cities across the Midwest on a weekend trip led by Liberal Arts faculty and staff.

In this 8-week course, students will enhance the research skills learned previously as well as gain skills to communicate research topics in addition to learning professional development skills for research fellowship with faculty.

Faculty Mentor Research Experience with Stipend Included

Engage in the opportunity to work one-on-one with Liberal Arts faculty on a project of your choice for an academic year.

Maymester Study Abroad Experience

Students will explore creative and cultural expressions of multiculturalism at the Universidad de Cartagena in Cartagena, Colombia.
