Communications Director, Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services

Jennifer Garrett is the communications director and public information officer for the Wisconsin state agency that regulates hundreds of professions and enforces the state building code. She helps advance the agency and support the administration’s priorities by establishing and executing the department’s communications strategy. Prior to her appointment, she was the strategic marketing and communications manager for the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing. In that role she edited the school magazine, promoted faculty research, and coached faculty members on media relations.

Jennifer has worked in communications for more than two decades and has experience in print, web, radio and television. She particularly enjoys the opportunity to help shape how people think and talk about the issues facing society and the government’s role in our lives.

While on campus, Jennifer was active with Mortar Board and the Panhellenic Council. She is a native of Munster, Indiana, and graduated from Munster High School. Jennifer received a JD degree from Indiana University-Bloomington. Although she has lived in Wisconsin for nearly 20 years, Indiana is still home.
