Printmaking

Undergraduate Fine Arts Plan of Study

Contemporary printmaking, painting, and drawing have evolved into rich and complex art forms. The field today also encompasses alternative processes, mixed media, and collage. The program emphasizes self-exploration and individual expression. Students are encouraged to express ideas in visual form.

Graduate students are encouraged to explore conceptual issues, hybrid art forms, reinvigorate traditional forms, and engage in critical dialogue and writing. See MFA Studio Art.

Graduate students and undergraduates will have opportunities to exhibit their work. Professional practice is a significant part of the program and students may curate, organize, and install national and international exhibitions in our galleries.

Printmaking offers two undergraduate programs so Fine Arts students can customize their studies:
Painting and Printmaking: Students in this major choose from an exciting range of courses in printmaking, silkscreen, relief, etching, lithography, monoprint, digital, painting, and drawing. Mixed media, alternative processes, life drawing, and art history are included. Additional studio courses in computer art, ceramics, textiles, metals, and sculpture are available as electives.

Drawing and Illustration: Students in this major choose from an exciting range of courses in drawing, life drawing, illustration, painting, printmaking, silkscreen, relief, etching, lithography, monoprint, and computer art. Mixed media, alternative processes, and art history are included. Additional studio courses in ceramics, textiles, metals, and sculpture are available as electives.

Career positions for arts professionals are available in galleries, museums, education, illustration, publishing prints, selling, and exhibiting art.
