History of Purdue Literary Awards and Visiting Writers
Literary Awards has been an institution at Purdue since 1928. Speakers have included: Sherwood Anderson, Tennessee Williams, Thornton Wilder, Eudora Welty, Robert Frost, Katharine Ann Porter, Saul Bellow, Gwendolyn Brooks, John Ashbery, Grace Paley, Adrienne Rich, Edward Albee, Derek Walcott, Louise Erdrich, Russell Banks, Seamus Heaney, Tony Kushner, Charles Wright, Maxine Hong Kingston, Sherman Alexie, Michael Chabon, Rita Dove, Annie Proulx, Charles Simic and Michael Cunningham. MFA Student Reading Series
These informal readings by current MFA students are held on the occasional Tuesday in the Spring in Downtown Lafayette. For scheduling information, please contact coordinator Lindsey Alexander.
MFA Thesis Readings
These celebratory readings, by fiction writers Shavonne Clarke, Natalie van Hoose and Dallas Woodburn and poets Lindsey Alexander, Greg Allendorf, Jessica Jacobs and Rosalie Moffett will be held at 7:30 pm on April 19 and April 26 at Wells Center, 638 North Street, Downtown Lafayette.
