HERE Magazine

How has your internship helped build skills and clarify your career goals?

My internship with HERE Magazine solidified my interest in possibly doing social media work after I finish my degree.

How do you apply your Liberal Arts skills in your internship?

Pursuing a degree within the College of Liberal Arts has really taught me how to be flexible and how to adapt to change/adversity. I definitely used these two skills in my internship, as the posts for social media always had the potential to change at the last minute.

Describe your typical day as an intern.

My internship was done remotely, so as long as I had access to Facebook and Instagram I could fulfill my responsibilities from anywhere. I did the Facebook/Instagram posts at 8am every morning and then spent anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour-and-a-half a day interacting with other accounts--replying to comments, liking and commenting on posts, and replying to stories. Every weekend I spent a few hours planning out the posts for the next week, choosing the photos, and writing the captions. In addition to planning and posting photos to social media, I also uploaded the digital version of the magazine whenever a new issue was released, assisted in planning an event, wrote an article for the magazine's website, and (one of my most favorite achievements!) I actually had one of my poems published in the Spring issue of the magazine!

How did you learn about your internship?

I discovered HERE Magazine from the shop that I work in at home (Aster + Gray). From there, I just reached out and asked if they were looking for an intern and the rest is history!

Did you meet with the Liberal Arts Career Center prior to applying for this internship? What kind of assistance did you receive?

I did! I have gone into the Liberal Arts Career Center a few times to have my resume looked over.
