Ross-Lynn Research Scholar Fund
College of Liberal Arts are pleased to announce the CLA competition for the 2023 Ross-Lynn Research Scholar Fund, formerly called the Purdue Research Foundation Research Grant (PRF XR). These are one-year awards to assist faculty who supervise PhD research in the development of new (or the continuation of ongoing) research projects, by providing for a half-time (0.50 FTE) Academic Year Research Assistantship.
The Ross-Lynn Fund is $34,500.00 (subject to update) which includes associated fringes and a fee remission. The graduate stipend should be no less than $26,000.00, of which the AY scholarship fund will cover $21,000.00. The department of the awarded faculty is expected to cover the remaining balance of $5,000.00. Departments may also top-off with additional funds, if necessary, to meet departmental salary expectations for the graduate student.
Each CLA department/school (except for DAP) may nominate one (1) faculty recipient - with a paired graduate student. Their joint scholarship should generate research, publications, and grant applications.
The proposal should indicate the goals, methods, and outcomes of the project. The Abstract section of the submission should describe how the project will enhance the research agenda of the proposing faculty, leading to outcomes such as highly visible publications, grants, or awards that enhance their and our standing in AAU Rankings.
CLA Administration will review and rank these applications, which will be factored into our final decisions. Each department/school should submit – in the appropriate fields – the following information:
- Project title
- Name of the faculty member to serve as project director
- Name of the student to be supported
- Main rationale for these selections and, finally
- Project narrative, attached to the application form (as a single PDF file). The project narrative should be no more than five double-spaced pages (in 12-point font), written for a general academic audience; including a bibliography and any tables/figures (using as many additional pages as needed).
The PDF file for the nominee should be named using the following format:
2023 Ross-Lynn – DEPT – Professor Last Name, Professor First Name
Example:
2023 Ross-Lynn – ANTH – Smith, John
All materials are due Monday May 29, 2023 before midnight EDT, and should be submitted via this electronic form. Should one has any questions or concerns, please contact CLA Grants Coordinator, Mike Hicks at mahicks@purdue.edu
