Paul McCormick
Paul McCormick (MFA ETB ’14) is currently an Instructional Technology Specialist II in the College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University.
As a new media artist and photographer Paul McCormick strives to make the invisible visible. Whether it is through a series of photographs, non-linear video, street art, or an installation, the focus of his work is to explore the thought of I exist only insofar as I am observed. When Paul creates, he begins by drawing inspiration from voluntary practices of surveillance such as social media and reality television along with the examination of surveillance within his community.
Through the catalog of his work it is not Paul’s intention to state whether he is for or against the current state of surveillance, but to question the roll in which these practices play in his life while inviting others to do the same. It is through exploration of the tools and practices of observing, that he is able to create. Paul’s work not only attempts to establish a dialogue both with the device or person observing but also the ones being observed.
Paul joined the ETB program in 2012, he holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from Indiana University South Bend and a Master of Arts in Studio Arts with a concentration in Photography and Digital Media from the University of Saint Francis.
