Artist, designer, and educator Norman Teague specializes in socially focused designed objects, public sculpture, and creating accessible and inviting spaces in and for historically marginalized communities. Born and raised in the vibrant Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago, Teague is deeply inspired by his city and the diverse communities found there. Teague is an assistant professor at the University of Illinois Chicago’s School of Design and he established his eponymous design firm in 2019. His practice focuses on design as an agent for change and empowerment, the complexity of urbanism, and the importance of centering communities. Currently, his work is representing the United States at the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale and he is serving as a creative collaborator on the exhibitions team for the Barack Obama Presidential Library in Chicago.
