Facets of Blue

The Legacy and Future of Indigo Dye

Ringel Gallery

Oct. 23 - Dec. 15, 2023

Indigo, perhaps more than any other textile dye, has an enduring global legacy of beauty, craft, and artistic expression. At the same time, indigo is and has been entangled with labor exploitation in the pursuit for world markets and profit. Bringing together material culture, history, and contemporary art, this exhibition considers the aesthetic and historical facets of indigo’s complex history as a coveted cultural object.  This exhibition is a curatorial collaboration with the Asian and Asian American Resource and Cultural Center and Dr. Shannon McMullen and features work from contemporary artists Aboubakar Fofana and Rowland and Chinami Ricketts.
