
CLA/OEVPRP Book & Review Articles Initiative
The Purdue Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships (OEVPRP) recently initiated a program granting awards for books and review articles. The specifics of each award are outlined herein. The deadline for submission is September 30, 2024.
CLA will be able to select a maximum of five book and/or article projects. The maximum award for each project will be $10,000.00, split between OEVPRP ($5,000.00) and CLA ($2,500.00 from the CLA Dean’s Office and $2,500.00 from the author's department). The selection will be made by the CLA Associate Deans with final approval from the Dean.

Elevating the Visibility of Research: Seed Funding for Academic Books and Monographs (2024)
High profile books and monographs in an academic discipline represent an opportunity to raise the visibility of your discipline and the reputation of the University. It can impact a generation of students and influence future opportunities. The Office of Research wants to support outstanding individuals so that you can make an impact in your field. We encourage submissions from those areas where books and monographs are the major form of recognition for their field. To apply for this opportunity, please follow the directions below:
In no more than two pages, describe the concept and include:
- Preliminary title
- There are two options for this application:
- Describe the topic and how you plan to develop the proposal for the book or monograph and why it will have influence on your field.
- If a book is in progress, describe how additional funding will enable you to complete the book and the anticipated impact of the book.
- List the expected authors and affiliations. Works with authors from multiple disciplines are encouraged.
- List the top three target publishers selected from the List of Journals/Publishers proposed by your department
- Proposed outcome of the work – What contribution does this monograph or book make to your discipline?
- Expected date of submission of proposal or completed book to the publisher. It is anticipated that the submission to the publisher will happen before the end of 2025.
- Insert in the proposal the text of an email, including the date from the department head, which confirms that the head has read the proposal and it endorses it for submission.
Please also attach a two-page CV that includes previously published works.
Up to $10,000.00 ($5,000.00 from CLA and $5,000.00 from the Office of Research will be put in a discretionary account to support your efforts). A description of how the funds will be used to enhance your success is required.
Submissions made via InfoReady will be reviewed by the College of Liberal Arts Associate Deans, with final review and approval by the CLA Dean. Applications should be submitted by the lead author by September 30, 2024. Decisions regarding final awardees are expected to be made by November 1st, 2024.

High profile journal review papers represent an opportunity to raise the visibility of your discipline and the reputation of the University. It can impact a generation of students and influence future research opportunities. The Office of Research wants to help outstanding individuals in your submission of review articles to high- quality and high-impact journals that make an impact in your field. To apply for this opportunity, please follow the directions below:
In no more than two pages, describe the concept and include:
- Preliminary title
- Target journal (1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice) and the impact factor. The journal should be one of those proposed by the department. Please check the List of Journals/Publishers
- Expected authors and affiliations. Submissions that include more than one discipline are encouraged.
- Goal(s) or objective(s)
- A brief “gap analysis” demonstrating how the paper differs from other recent reviews/publications in the field or how the review would define a new area in the field.
- Proposed outcome of the work – What contribution does this journal article or make to your field?
- Expected date for submission and rationale for the date. Target submission date cannot be beyond the end of calendar year 2025.
- Insert in the proposal the text of an email, including the date from the department head, which confirms that the head has read the proposal and it endorses it for submission.
Please also attach a two-page CV that includes any previously-published papers.
As you develop your review paper, please reach out to the libraries for help to:
- Identify relevant databases
- Construct search strategies
- Reference management tools
- More in-depth collaboration
Please acknowledge the role of the library in you submission.
It is expected that reviews are published in an Open Access journal when appropriate and that individuals will take advantage of the Library services to defray the cost of open access Open Access at Purdue | Purdue Libraries
