Jamin Asay received his master’s degree from Northern Illinois University, Ph.D. from the University of Northern Carolina-Chapel Hill, and a bachelor's degree from Whitman College, all in philosophy.

He works in the areas of metaphysics, philosophy of language, and philosophy of science, with particular interest in the nature of truth and its connection to other areas of philosophy. He is currently researching the role of truth in political speech, psychological development, and the Chinese philosophical tradition.

Prior to joining the Purdue faculty, Asay taught philosophy at Lingnan University in Hong Kong and was Chairperson in Philosophy at the University of Hong Kong. Originally from the Pacific Northwest, he spent a year as a VISTA with AmeriCorps in Madison, Wisconsin, and a summer at the Hong Kierkegaard Library at St. Olaf College. At UNC he served as a Research Fellow for the Parr Center for Ethics. In 2009, he was a visiting scholar with the Centre for Time at the University of Sydney in Australia.
