Protection of Rights of Privacy to Students

A university policy affecting students that is important for faculty to understand is University Policy VIII.A.4, "Access to Student Education Records". Students attending the university, or those for whom educational records are maintained by the university, are entitled to certain protections of their records and have certain rights in regard to those records.  The specific provisions are contained in the policy and should be carefully studied.  Listed in the memorandum are those materials to which students do/do not have access, conditions under which students’ records may be disclosed, a definition of “directory information” used by the university, and conditions under which students may challenge the content of their university records.  If you desire assistance in interpreting the guidelines, please contact Associate Dean Joel Ebarb.
