February - Cheryl Cooky

Please join me in congratulating Cheryl Cooky, associate professor of American studies and women’s, gender, and sexuality studies, for winning the 2018 “Outstanding Sociology of Sport Article of the Year Award” from the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport.

The award goes to the author of the best article published in the previous calendar year in the Sociology of Sport Journal. Cheryl’s article, “We Cannot Sit Idly By: A necessary Call for a Public Sociology of Sport,” was the winning publication. It was also the most-read article on the SSJ website in 2017.

In addition, Cheryl’s book, No Slam Dunk: Gender, Sport and the Unevenness of Social Change, was published earlier this year with Rutgers University Press.

Congratulations, Cheryl!
