Christopher Cayari
Please join me in congratulating Christopher Cayari, assistant professor of music, who recently received the 2015 Outstanding Dissertation Award from The Council for Research in Music Education.
Christopher’s work from his dissertation was also recently published in Music Education Research about connecting music education and virtual performance practices developed by YouTube musicians. He will travel to Atlanta, GA, in March to accept his award at The 2018 Music Research and Teacher Education National Conference sponsored by National Association for Music Education.
He will also be presenting a performative autoethnography this Friday, October 27 in the Dance Theater in Yue-Kong Pao Hall. The performance-based research features original prose and verse interwoven with musical theater repertoire performed by Christopher to address social norms as they relate to the LGBTQ+ community, LGBTQ+ representation in school music programs, and self-acceptance of identity within academia.
