John Larson

Please join me in congratulating John L. Larson, professor, assistant department head, and director of graduate education in the Department of History, on publishing "On Cat's Paws: Teaching the Emergence of Capitalism in American History."

Modern capitalism has been extraordinarily successful in persuading Americans that the free enterprise system is a natural, timeless, and immutable phenomenon without origin or history. However, John argues that capitalism came "on cat's paws," as the capitalist system crept into American life. John's article was published in The Panorama, an online publication of the Journal of the Early Republic.

Congratulations, Professor Larson.
