Jennifer Marston William
Please join me in congratulating Jennifer Marston William, professor in the School of Languages and Cultures, on the recent publication of her monograph, Cognitive Approaches to German Historical Film: Seeing is Not Believing (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017).
Cognitive Approaches to German Historical Film: Seeing is Not Believing is the first cognitive film studies book of its kind to focus on German cinema. This book introduces different cognitive theories and shows how they apply to various popular German films. Jen also authored the monograph Killing Time: Waiting Hierarchies in the Twentieth-Century German Novel (Bucknell University Press, 2010), and co-edited the volumeTheory of Mind and Literature (Purdue University Press, 2011). Her scholarly articles have appeared in journals such as German Quarterly, German Studies Review,Unterrichtspraxis/Teaching German, The Germanic Review, The Brecht Yearbook, and The Journal of the Kafka Society of America.
Jen is a co-founder and steering committee member of the Center for Cognitive Literary Studies, and she is an editor of the German literature entries for The Literary Encyclopedia. She will be conducting research in Berlin this summer for her new project on embodied politics in German and American theater productions.
