Discovery Excellence Awards

Please join me in congratulating five distinguished faculty members in the College of Liberal Arts for receiving the CLA Discovery Excellence Awards, the College's highest recognition for outstanding achievement in the Creative Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

Representing excellence in research and creative endeavors by CLA faculty, the Discovery Excellence Award is designed to recognize the quality, impact, and breadth of discoveries that faculty have had in three, key areas: Creative Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

The winner of the Creative Arts Award is Richard Thomas, Professor of Theatre in the Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Visual and Performing Arts. Richard is a composer, sound designer, author, and playmaker who specializes in sound design within the theatre department.

The two winners of the Humanities Award include Leonard Harris, Professor of Philosophy, and Randy Roberts, Distinguished Professor of History. Leonard focuses on American social and political philosphy and Randy examines modern American history as it pertains to pop culture.

Leigh Raymond, Professor of Political Science and University Scholar, and Fenggang Yang, Professor of Sociology and Director of Center on Religion and Chinese Society, both received the Social Sciences Award. Leigh also serves as the Director of the Center for the Environment and Fenggang specializes in the sociology of religion and immigration.

Congratulations to all of the 2017-18 recipients!
