Maria earned her PhD in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis. Her research looks at the ways in which virtues can backfire, resulting in morally inappropriate behaviors, moral perceptions, and emotional responses. She is particularly interested in how we, given the quirks of our human psychology, can go about moving towards virtue. Maria also has interests in epistemology, specifically about the connection between moral testimony, moral understanding, and virtue.
