Touching Strangers

Richard Renaldi
January 12 - February 6, 2015
East  Gallery

Since 2007, photographer Richard Renaldi has been working on a series of photographs that involve approaching and asking complete strangers to physically interact while posing together for a portrait. Working on the street with a large format eight-by-ten-inch view camera, Renaldi encounters the subjects for his photographs in towns and cities all over the United States. He pairs them up and invites them to pose together, intimately, in ways that people are usually taught to reserve for their close friends and loved ones. 20 photographs from the Touching Strangers series will be on display in the Patti and Rusty Rueff Galleries East Gallery.

Eats, Shoots, and Weaves - Growing up American with an Asian Face
January 26 - February 13, 2015
ception: Thursday, February 12th, 5:00 - 7:00 pm
Artist Talk: Wednesday, February 4th, 12:00 pm

Patti and Rusty Rueff Galleries: West, Pao Hall

The weavings on display in professor Lisa Lee Peterson's solo exhibition, "Eats, Shoots, and Weaves - Growing up American with an Asian Face," reflect Peterson's 30+ years of work in the area of textiles. Professor Peterson's work is fueled by personal experiences and family stories. By incorporating elements from her own past, the exhibition suggests a search for personal identity within a world clouded by cultural, social, and familial expectations and assumptions. The work shoots at shadows, saying one thing, but meaning another, weaving one image, but reflecting many. Professor Peterson has been teaching at Purdue for 30 years, and she will be retiring after this semester.

JOIN US for the closing reception on Thursday, February 12th at 5:00 PM in The Patti and Rusty Rueff Galleries, Pao Hall. Lisa Lee Peterson is also speaking about her work on Wednesday, February 4th, at 12 noon as part of the 1st Wednesdays @ Noon series, sponsored by the Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Visual and Performing Arts, in association with Piano Solutions of Indianapolis. To RSVP for the talk or for more information about the 1st Wednesdays @ Noon series, please call Denise Anderson-Laws at 765 (494)-2787.

About the Galleries

The Patti and Rusty Rueff Galleries, along with the Purdue Galleries, provide a vital component to the cultural life at Purdue University and its surrounding community.  The Rueff Galleries have the unique perspective of being a teaching and research space for students and faculty of the Rueff School of Visual and Performing Arts at Purdue. Housed in Pao Hall on campus, the Rueff Galleries offer exhibits and special events that speak directly to its mission of serving the students and faculty, while also expressing perspectives that are national and international in scope. The Rueff Galleries are named after Patti and Rusty Rueff, who were the benefactors instrumental in providing funding necessary to establish the galleries for the Rueff School of Visual and Performing Arts.

The Patti and Rusty Rueff Galleries regularly show over a dozen exhibitions each semester. Our exhibition schedule for the current term is available under Current Exhibition Schedule. Past exhibition schedules can be viewed under Past Exhibitions.
