Art History Student Organization (AHSO)

The faculty in art history regularly publishes articles and books in their individual fields of specialization. We also put on public exhibitions, dealing with art of the past and present of both western and non-western origin, and these shows have dealt with African, Japanese, and Latin American art. The exhibitions’ content embraces a variety of media such as sculpture, textiles, painting, printmaking, and photography. Students play an essential role in preparing and installing the exhibitions. The Art History Student Organization sponsors field trips that recently have taken us to the Frank Lloyd Wright house in West Lafayette, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, also in Indianapolis. We arranged to have a guided tour at each location.

In the fall of 2016, AHSO has sponsored several other events besides the field trips mentioned above, that include showing a film about the artist Jackson Pollock, having a bake sale that raised funds for the organization, and sponsoring a photo contest that is campus- wide. An exhibition of the photos will occur in January 2017. Prof. Parrish is the faculty advisor to AHSO.
