The Two Gentlemen of Verona

Nancy T. Hansen Theatre in Yue-Kong Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts
February 15, 16, 21, 22, 23 at 7:30 and 17, 24, at 2:30

Purdue Theatre presents William Shakespeare'sThe Two Gentlemen of Verona. This production, set in 1920s America, takes a fresh look at Shakespeare's rarely performed early comedy, which explores the complex interplay of platonic friendship, romantic love, and personal maturation for four young people in love.

Sent away to learn how to become "perfect gentlemen," best friends Valentine (Kenneth England) and Proteus (Matthew Duncan) are challenged by their competition for the love of Sylvia (Katrina Guzman). Complicating matters further, Proteus has already pledged his love to Julia (Malena Gordo), who disguises herself as a boy in order to go and search for him. This comedy traces increasingly complex layers of intrigue to an ending that speaks with startling resonance today.
