Professor Leigh Raymond was named a University Faculty Scholar by the College of Liberal Arts beginning July 1, 2014.

Cheryl O'Brien, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, San Diego State University received her doctoral degree from Purdue University, Political Science in 2013. Cheryl is recipient of the 2014 Best Dissertation Award from the Women and Politics section at the APSA.

Weldon to serve as interim provost: Laurel S. Weldon, professor of political science, will serve as the University's interim provost June 1-30.

Communication institute awards scholarships for experiential learning: Political Science Recipients were: 

  •  Alison Gayer, a senior studying political science and professional writing. Gayer will intern with the Center for Global Impact in Greenwood, Ind. 
  •  Jonathan Goodwin, a senior studying political science. Goodwin will intern at C-SPAN in Washington, D.C.
  •  Ahndia Mansoori, a senior studying political science. Mansoori also will intern at C-SPAN.

Graduate students honored for teaching excellence: The event recognized graduate students who earned Teaching Academy Graduate Teaching Awards, Graduate Instructional Development Certificates (GIDC), Graduate Teaching Certificates (GTC), and Advanced Graduate Teaching Certificates (AGTC).
Michael R. Brownstein, Political Science is a recipient of the Teaching Academy Graduate Teaching Award. 
 
Nusta Carranza Ko, Political Science. earned the Graduate Teacher Certificate.

Assistant Professor Nadia E. Brown was selected to receive the 2013-14 Midwest Women's Caucus for Political Science Early Career Award

Undergraduate student Melissa Gokmogol won first place at Purdue's Discovery University with her poster project entitled, "Cleaner Air Beyond California." 

Associate Professor Daniel P. Aldrich's paper, "THE PHYSICAL AND SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF MORTALITY IN THE 3.11 TSUNAMI", was recently listed on SSRN's Top Ten download list for: PSN: Natural Disasters Abstract and statistics: http://ssrn.com/abstract=2421779

Allison Turner, a junior from Channahon, Ill., was a Harry S. Truman Scholarship finalist based on a record of leadership,and public service and which is for students dedicated to a career in public service. Turner, who is pursuing a double major in natural resources and environmental science and political science, focuses on community clean water issues.

Assistant Professor Nadia Brown was named a 2014 faculty scholar for the Susan Buckeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence.

A retirement celebration was held for Professor William Shaffer, December 18, 2013 to thank him for his many years of service.

Students and professors met with Purdue Alumnus Matthew Miller, BA 2000 Political Science, Vice President Business Roundtable, Washington, DC at a Meet and Greet held in BRNG 2243, October 25, 2013, 1:30-2:15 pm, hosted by the Department of Political Science. 

October 18, 2013, Purdue Alumnus Harold Bickham, BA 1970 Political Science, and Partner, Barnes and Thornburg, Indianapolis, IN, met with faculty and students at a Meet & Greet hosted by the Political Science Department in BRNG 2243. Harold Bickham was also a featured Fall speaker for GS 300 LA Influentials.

Wednesday, October 9, 2013, Limited Term Lecturer Laura Young, PhD was inducted into The Purdue University Teaching Academy. She was one of 13 new members welcomed during an induction and recognition ceremony.  

Sheila Klinker, Indiana State Representative, District 27 was recently interviewed for POL 120Y, Introduction to Public Policy, Distance Learning by the Independent Instructor, Graduate Student Christopher Kulesza.
