Marifran Mattson

Please join me in congratulating Marifran Mattson, professor and head of the Brian Lamb School of Communication, for her appointment to a national committee that monitors mine research safety standards.

Marifran will be one of 10 appointees on the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Mine Safety and Health Research Advisory Committee. The group advises the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, the director of the CDC, and the director of NIOSH on mine research, including research grants and contracts. The committee evaluates NIOSH research activities on the basis of scientific excellence and current relevance in the field of mine safety and health.
