From the Dean

Dear Friends,

The end of the calendar year always elicits reflection, and looking back on this year’s accomplishments, I’m proud of the work of our faculty, students, and alumni.

Earlier this month, Purdue inducted 68 new professors into the Book of Great Teachers, and I’m proud to say that nearly a quarter of them are current faculty in the College of Liberal Arts.

The excellent teaching translates to excellent students, as evidenced by Michelle Bouley, a junior majoring in interior design.  Michelle co-founded Purdue’s chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council in early 2013 in an effort to make our interior environments “safer, healthier, and ultimately happier.”

While many of our graduates build outstanding careers, Sally Watlington (BA 1960, Liberal Arts) wasn’t satisfied with just one. Retired from the U.S. Navy, she has become one of Greater Lafayette’s most dedicated volunteers, touching lives across the community.

As we celebrate each of these achievements, a central goal is to tell our story well. Doing so has been the focus of a year-long project that boldly highlights Liberal Arts as an integral part of a Purdue education. Please join us as we introduce our new messaging and tagline in a lively celebration on Sunday, January 12, at 7 pm in Elliott Hall of Music.

Great achievements are rarely accomplished in isolation, and your support is an integral part of the success of the College of Liberal Arts. Thank you for all that you do for the College. We wish you a happy new year as we approach 2014 with renewed excitement and energy.
