Daniel Smith

Please join me in congratulating Daniel Smith, professor of philosophy, who has received a three-year grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The $299,276 grant supports his translation of the seminar lectures given by the French philosopher Gilles Deleuze at the University of Paris VIII from the early 1970s to his retirement in 1987.

The Deleuze Seminars project, headed by Dan, is now translating into English the entire archive of Deleuze seminar lectures. The archive includes 177 seminar sessions with a total of 400 hours of lectures and would amount to almost 30 volumes of material in print form. The project was initially seeded by a Global Synergy Grant from the College of Liberal Arts in 2014, and has since been supported by the NEH. The current grant will support, among other activities, the translation of Deleuze’s landmark seminar on the cinema, which lasted four years (1981-1985).

Congratulations, Professor Smith!
