Wendy Kline
Please join me in congratulating Wendy Kline, the Dema G. Seelye Chair in the History of Medicine, for receiving a global engagement grant from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland.
The grant – which is designed for Strathclyde academics to develop partnerships with academic institutions and organizations outside the United Kingdom – will enable Wendy to spend a week at Strathclyde in the late spring or early summer. Wendy’s partner in the grant is Laura Kelly, director of Strathclyde’s Centre for the Social History of Health and Healthcare.
The idea for the grant originated in October 2017, when Wendy delivered the annual lecture for the CSHHH in Glasgow. The enthusiastic response to her lecture, “Making the Invisible Visible: The Unexpected Entanglements of Psychiatry, Midwifery, and Psychedelics,” led to discussion about further exchanges between Purdue and Strathclyde.
While at Strathclyde, Wendy will engage in meetings with professors and CSHHH staff to discuss avenues for project collaborations, as well as possible jointly-taught modules between Strathclyde and Purdue professors and faculty-student exchanges between the two universities. She will also teach a masterclass on her research to Strathclyde master’s and doctoral students, again with the goal of establishing student exchanges between universities, and will co-organize with Kelly a one-day workshop on the history of reproductive health and health activism.
