Terese Mailhot

Please join me in congratulating Terese Mailhot, a creative writing Tecumseh Postdoctoral Fellow in the English department, on her book: Heart Berries: A Memoir (Counterpoint, 2018).

Terese’s book tells her personal tale of growing up on the Seabird Island Indian Reservation in the Pacific Northwest with a dysfunctional family life, and of how she has claimed control of her story following years of trauma and abuse.

The book has already earned significant critical acclaim, including reviews in the Chicago Tribune and New York Times. The New York Times Book Review recently named Heart Berries as one of its Editor’s Choice selections and Barnes & Noble named it as one of its “Discover Great New Writers” picks for spring 2018.

Congratulations, Terese!
