James A. McCann

Join me in congratulating James A. McCann, Professor and Graduate Placement Director in the Department of Political Science for recently receiving a grant on behalf of the Russell Sage Foundation for his extensive contributions to the 2016 Latino Immigrant National Election Study (LINES)

Jay conducts research on public opinion, electoral processes, participation, and representation in the United States and cross-nationally.  His work has appeared in many leading scholarly journals, including the American Political Science Review, the Journal of Politics, the American Journal of Political Science, and the British Journal of Political Science

Through LINES, Jay conducted a 2012 survey of foreign-born Latinos to evaluate public opinion and political engagement. With this $150,000 grant, he will continue this research into the fall 2016 campaign cycle, a presidential election in which immigration is particularly salient. Beyond the election, Jay will examine the next administration in order to understand how and to what extent major national elections shape political orientation and engagement among the foreign-born.

Congratulations, Professor McCann!
