Marianne Boruch
Please join me in congratulating Marianne Boruch, professor of English, whose poem “I Get to Float Invisible” will be published in The Best American Poetry 2016. First published in the fall 2015 issue of The Georgia Review, “I Get to Float Invisible” will appear in this new Scribner collection, edited by series editor David Lehman and guest editor Edward Hirsch, in September.
Marianne, who developed and directed the MFA program in creative writing at Purdue from its beginning in 1987 to 2005, has had a full year. She recently returned from the MacDowell Colony, and has also written over the last year at Yaddo and Denali National Park, where she served as an artist-in-residence. Her poems have recently appeared or are forthcoming in The New York Review of Books, Poetry, American Poetry Review, Kenyon Review, The Hudson Review, The Believer, and Umbrellas of Edinburgh: Poetry and Prose Inspired by Scotland’s Capital City. This spring, her essay “Charm” appeared in The Massachusetts Review. Her ninth collection of poems, Eventually One Dreams the Real Thing (Copper Canyon, 2016), was just published, and her third book of essays, The Little Death of Self: Nine Essays toward Poetry (from the “Poets on Poetry” series, University of Michigan Press) will be out next spring. Finally, Marianne spoke during the last year at the Indiana Writers Center in Indianapolis, Westminster College in Salt Lake City, and the Association of Writers & Writing Programs (AWP) conference in Los Angeles.
