Eric Waltenburg

A new book on judicial behavior and the Norwegian Supreme Court, co-authored by Associate Professor of Political Science Eric Waltenburg, has received significant international attention and media coverage in the Norwegian press.

Working with William R. Shaffer, professor emeritus of political science at Purdue, and Gunnar Grenstad, professor of comparative politics at the University of Bergen in Norway, Eric has co-written Policy Making in an Independent Judiciary: The Norwegian Supreme Court, published by the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) Press in 2015. In their book, Eric and his co-authors demonstrate that a model of judicial behavior developed in the context of the U.S. Supreme Court can be applied to systematically explain the decisions of Norway’s Supreme Court justices.

The book was launched last fall at the International Conference on Supreme Courts in Context at the University of Bergen, an event celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Norwegian Supreme Court. Several former and current Norwegian Supreme Court justices, including retired Chief Justice Carsten Smith, attended the event. Following the launch, Eric’s research has attracted significant attention from the Norwegian press.

Congratulations, Dr. Waltenburg!
