Robin Clair
Please join me in congratulating Robin Clair, professor of communication, on receiving a Distinguished Alumni Award from Kent State University, where she earned her doctorate. Shortly after graduating from Kent State, Robin began her career at Purdue, teaching diversity at work, rhetoric, and ethnographic methods. During her time with the Brian Lamb School of Communication, she has received two fellowships to the Center for Artistic Endeavors, one of which begins next spring and involves writing the sequel to her novel Zombie Seed and the Butterfly Blues: A Case of Social Justice, which deals with narrative theory, rhetoric, power and organizations, and gender relations surrounding genetically modified seeds. Professor Clair has also published two award-winning books, including her book on ethnography and communication, Expressions of Ethnography, and her work on silence and sequestered stories of sexual harassment, titled Organizing Silence: A World of Possibilities, which received the 2000 Outstanding Book Award from the organizational communication division of the National Communication Association.
She is currently working as principal investigator on a project examining culture, communication, and health issues related to open defecation in India, which is funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
