Five Undergraduates Win Honors at Poster Session
Five CLA undergraduates were recently honored at the Undergraduate Research and Poster Symposium.
First place, for her poster titled “War Neuroses: How Twentieth-Century Industrial Warfare Shaped the American Hero,” was history major Lauren Haslem. Lauren's thesis mentors were Professor Wendy Kline, the Dema G. Seelye Chair in the History of Medicine, and Associate Professor Yvonne Pitts.
Second place was professional writing and English major Mary Adkins, for her poster “Societal Influences on the Revisions of the Classic Nancy Drew Mystery Stories.” Mary’s paper was written for her senior Honors thesis and her mentor was Professor Wendy Flory. Mary will graduate from CLA and the Honors College next week.
Three students tied for third place. Lily Anderson from anthropology presented “The Criminal Burial,” working with Associate Professor Michelle Buzon. Hannah Bays, also an anthropology major, won for her poster titled “Menstruation and Deep Placentation Are Correlated Primate Traits.” Hannah worked with Visiting Assistant Professor Elizabeth Rowe on her project. Eric Stocking from history won for his poster "'The Ladies' Gunboat': Confederate Charleston and the Union Blockade, 1861–1863.” Eric worked with Professor Caroline Janney.
