Purdue Institute of Civic Communication students develop mobile game prototype

As part of the Purdue Institute of Civic Communication’s (PICC) Washington Program with C-SPAN, this past May 2015, seventeen students from across Purdue University developed a mobile game prototype that challenges eighth-graders in Indiana to balance the federal budget. Working in three interdisciplinary and multi-cultural teams over the course of two-weeks, the students developed the prototype with guidance from Executive Director, Carolyn Curiel, C-SPAN founder and retired CEO, Brian Lamb, Director of Digital Products and Design at the Washington Post, Joey Marburger, and other high-profile guests including staff at the Congressional Budget Office and the U.S. Senate Budget Office, as well as Senator Mike Enzi (R-Wyoming), Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee. The online game prototype follows Indiana State Educational standards and provides instructional materials and assignments for teachers. Riley Back, a double-major in the Brian Lamb School of Communication and Computer Science Technology, said of the innovative learning experience, "This program was amazing. I did not think it was possible to learn as much as I did in just two weeks. I will take with me valuable insights, business relationships, friendships, skills, and connections for the future."

Congratulations to these students on their teamwork, work ethic, and remarkable achievement!
