Film and video studies alumni recognized

Two recent alumni of film and video studies, Lexi Hiland (2013) and Jack Klink (2015), were honored for their film work. Hiland’s documentary film, La Lotería de la Vida [The Lottery of Life], was chosen as an official selection at the annual media summit of the National Association of Latino Independent Producers. Hiland, a video producer at Think Ahead Studios in Indianapolis, recently spoke at TEDxPurdueU and was selected as one of “10 Latino Filmmakers You Should Know” by Remezcla, an influential media collective for Latino Millennials in the US, Latin America, and Spain. She also directed and produced a series of films, “This is Who We Are,” for the College of Liberal Arts, highlighting opportunities CLA students have to be a force for good in the world—through study abroad, internships, and partnerships with scholars in STEM fields.

Klink’s film Continuance was nominated as a semifinalist in the 42nd annual Student Academy Awards, placing it in the top 5 percent of all films submitted. Klink was the 2015 outstanding senior in film and video studies; he also minored in electronic and time-based art and earned a certificate in entrepreneurship and innovation. He continues to create documentaries, short films, musical stage video productions, television advertising, and other promotional productions as an independent freelancer. Klink was the videographer, editor, and director for the award-winning public education documentary Rise Above the Mark, narrated by actor Peter Coyote. He has been awarded eight American Advertising Federation ADDY Awards, including his first regional gold at age 16 and a Rising Star honor.

Congratulations to alumni Lexi Hiland and Jack Klink for their outstanding film work!
