Study Abroad and International Programs
Should I study abroad?
Studying abroad can be one of the most transformative experiences you will have as a college student. You will grow in confidence, independence, and understanding of other societies and cultures by spending time in another country. Purdue offers more than 200 programs in more than 45 countries, each lasting between one week and one academic year, and the College of Liberal Arts offers more than 25 short-term programs led by CLA faculty. Whatever your interest, we have a program for you.
Will study abroad fit in with my plan of study?
Yes! Plan in advance and meet with your academic adviser to determine the best program and duration choices to keep you on track for graduation. Credits earned abroad can count towards your major, minor, and Core requirements, and can also count as electives.
What kinds of programs are available?
Departmental and Purdue-Administered Programs will keep you with Purdue students and professors. These are usually short-term programs. The College of Liberal Arts offers more than 25 CLA Department-Led Programs.
Co-Sponsored Programs provide on-site support through a third party, and may last a summer to a full year.
Exchange Programs allow you to enroll as a regular student at the host university while you pay Purdue tuition. These programs provide the most flexibility and are often the most cost-effective option.

Sex, History, and the Cities
Thirteen students explore gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender history and culture from the eighteenth to the twenty-first centuries in New York City, Berlin, Germany, and Paris—four cities with a rich history of vibrant sexual subcultures.
Led by Professor Yvonne Pitts and Lowell Kane (Director, LGBTQ Center), this program integrates service learning and social justice work.
