CLA Girl with a Light Stick

College of Liberal Arts

A force for good in the world. The College of Liberal Arts prepares graduates for meaningful careers and inspired leadership. Looking forward, we will build upon our exceptional teaching and significant research. We produce knowledge leading to transformative human advances and graduates who think broadly in a complex world and lead boldly as productive members of their communities. Our faculty and students engage the world beyond campus in pursuit of innovative solutions to society’s most complex challenges. Ours is a deep commitment to the work in front of us and the world around us.

For more than 50 years, the arts, humanities, and social sciences have provided the foundation of a Purdue education. Today, the College of Liberal Arts pushes all Purdue students intellectually, challenging them to be independent thinkers who drive decision making as bold, visionary leaders. Our disciplines are an integral component of a Purdue education, shaping our renowned graduates whose critical thinking and problem solving skills make them unique and sought-after leaders.

A liberal arts education for the 21st century. Looking forward, the College will position our students for success and impact whether their aspirations are for careers in business or non-profits, in academia or public service. We will celebrate the importance of our faculty scholarship and the relevance of our disciplines. We will advance the College of Liberal Arts by developing new and updated courses and programs of study to ensure that our students graduate with marketable skills that will help them secure jobs and grow throughout their careers. We will work to provide every undergraduate with an internship or research experience and the opportunity to cultivate a relationship with an alumni mentor. We will nurture the next generation of scholars by fostering more research opportunities and providing our graduate students with the best blend of teaching and research to propel their professional success. Continuing our tradition of reaching across the University, we will develop integrated academic tracks for students outside the College who want to study the liberal arts to enhance their Purdue education.

HOW YOU CAN HELP. The College is positioned to make a difference in the lives of all Purdue students. Be our partner, supporting us through Ever True: The Campaign for Purdue University. Your gifts — to establish endowments for scholarships, fellowships, and professorships, to support our strategic initiatives, to make internship opportunities a reality for every student — will empower us, collectively, to be a force for good in the world.

2012-2019 Campaign Initiatives

It is essential that we increase undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships to remain competitive in attracting top students and to ensure that a Purdue education is accessible to all students. Enhancing students’ undergraduate education with internships provides them with a competitive edge in the marketplace. Scholarships will bring internships within reach for all students.

Student and Professor working together

It is essential that we increase the number of endowed professorships to recruit and retain top talent and to continue our rich traditions of excellence in teaching and research in all of our disciplines.

It is essential that we increase our support of innovation across the curriculum to ensure that all students benefit from a contemporary liberal arts experience, exceptional career advancement and professional development, and meaningful co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities, including experiential learning, undergraduate research, and study abroad.

It is essential that we enhance our classrooms, studios, and other facilities with evolving technology and equipment to keep our programs at the forefront of innovation and creative expression. Creating dedicated space for a college career center will reinforce our commitment to preparing students for impact and growth throughout their careers.

It is essential that we increase our unrestricted funds to respond quickly to transformative opportunities and to advance our strategic vision in meaningful ways for the benefit of our students and faculty.
