Hyun Joo Kwon joins the Department of Art and Design as an Assistant Professor of Interior Design after completed her Ph.D. at Virginia Tech in 2012. She received a M.S. in Housing and Interior Design from Yonsei University, Korea, and a B.Des. in Interior Design and a B.E. in Architecture from Inje University, Korea. Her research focuses on environmental design for an aging society, including older adults’ lifestyle and housing behavior, residential design for aging-in-place, livable community design, and affordable green housing strategy. Hyun Joo’s dissertation explores how older adults’ reasons for moving into their current multifamily housing impact on their residential satisfaction and their intention to move in the future, funded by College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech and Virginia Tech Foundation Advisory Board. Her thesis entitled “Behavior-based Design of Aging-Friendly Digital Home Using a Web-based Survey” which was funded by National Research Foundation of Korea.
