Ian Lindsay received his MA and PhD from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and his BA from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He teaches archaeology and anthropology courses in the Department of Anthropology.
Professor Lindsay’s research focuses on the origins of complex polities in the southern Caucasus during the Bronze Age. Since 2000, he has worked in Armenia as a member of an international collaborative expedition called Project ArAGATS, together with scholars from Cornell University and the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Republic of Armenia. His ongoing research in Armenia centers on a Late Bronze Age fortress settlement, where he employs excavation, geophysical survey, and elemental analysis of ancient pottery to investigate the role of mobile pastoral communities in the creation of new sociopolitical institutions in southern Caucasus during the mid-2nd millennium BC.
