Associate Professor of Political Science
Kenneth T. Kofmehl Undergraduate Teaching Awards
Patricia Boling received her PhD in political science from UC Berkeley, and has taught at Purdue since 1992. Her research provides theoretical and comparative insight into policy areas that straddle the public–private divide, including two books (Privacy and the Politics of Intimate Life, Cornell University Press, 1996 and The Politics of Work–Family Policies: Comparing Japan, France, Germany and the United States, Cambridge University Press, 2015) and articles related to pregnancy disabilities, teaching fat feminism, mothering as a route to political activism, food justice, and farm-to-school policies. Patricia relishes teaching controversial topics and pushing students to develop their own sense of political/ethical judgment. Interdisciplinary work is one of Pat’s métiers; she cross lists courses with both Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and agricultural economics.
