Jessica Sturm received her Ph.D. in French with a certificate in Second Language Acquisition and Teacher Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2008. That year, she joined the Purdue faculty as Visiting Assistant Professor of French; in 2009 she became a tenure-track Assistant Professor of French and Applied Linguistics. She is a participating faculty member in the Linguistics program and Coordinator of the French Language Program (FR 101-202). Her research is situated in the context of classroom foreign language (L2) learning, particularly L2 orthography and pronunciation. Pedagogically, she is interested in incorporating technology, particularly film and video, in the language classroom. She teaches graduate courses in SLA theory as well as pedagogical courses focusing on using film in the L2 classroom, teaching L2 pronunciation, and cultural themes in L2 teaching. For undergraduates, she teaches advanced-intermediate language as well as an advanced course in French Phonetics and Pronunciation.
