Jane Natt received her master’s degree in mass communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999. In 2000 she joined the Purdue faculty as a clinical assistant professor in the Brian Lamb School of Communication.

She is the director of the introductory public speaking course that enrolls more than 5,000 students each year, and the co-author of the custom textbook Effective Presentations. She developed a communication lab to help students with their presentational speaking skills, and in 2012, the course was named a program of distinction by the National Communication Association. She is also the course supervisor for Writing for the Mass Media and teaches additional courses in social media and editing. In 2008, she and 17 Purdue students spent two months working for the official Beijing Olympic News Service.

Prior to joining the faculty at Purdue in 2000, she spent 15 years as a reporter and editor with The Associated Press and a year as a public relations expert for the American Association of School Administrators in Washington, D.C.

In 2015, Jane won an Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher award in the College of Liberal Arts.
