Languages and Cultures
Atsushi Fukada is a Professor of Japanese and Linguistics in the School of Languages and Cultures, in the Interdisciplinary Program in Linguistics, and in Asian Studies. He is also the Director of the Center for Technology-Enhanced Language Learning (The TELL Center). His current research interests include second language acquisition/learning and pedagogy, online language course design and development, and pragmatics. In 2009, he invented an oral practice/assessment software platform called Speak Everywhere and has continued to improve it. The web-based system is being used at a number of institutions in the US, Brazil, and Japan. He was the 2013 recipient of the Helping Students Learn Award for this work.
