Lanette Jimerson is a visiting assistant professor in English education.

Jimerson completed a Ph.D. and M.A. in language, literacy, society, and culture at the University of California, Berkeley. Before coming to Purdue, Jimerson was the director of the Secondary English Credential and Masters Pathway at U.C.-Berkeley, where she redesigned the technology course and developed an advanced practicum course for first-year teachers. Prior to that, she was a program manager at the Stanford Center for Assessment, Learning and Equity at Stanford University, where she developed the RESA licensure exam for the state of Ohio and archetypes for the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium’s Writing Performance Task.

She has served as the co-director of the Bay Area Writing Project and as an advisory board member for U.C.-Berkeley Extension’s TESOL program. Her research and service is informed by 14 years teaching English at the secondary level in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Jimerson’s research focuses on writing instruction, professional learning, literacy in and out of schools, and diversity in teacher education. She has published on the intersection of writing instruction, technology, and human rights.
