Sebastian Murgueitio Ramirez is an assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy at Purdue University. He holds a Ph.D. in the history and philosophy of science, and a masters’ degree in physics from the University of Notre Dame. He received both a bachelor of arts in philosophy and a bachelor of science in physics from Universidad de los Andes (Colombia). From 2021 to 2022, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Oxford.
Murgueitio Ramirez works primarily on the philosophy of symmetries and quantum mechanics and the metaphysics of laws of nature. His dissertation was on the empirical significance of symmetries, and his work has appeared in journals such as The British Journal for the Philosophy of Science, Studies in the History and Philosophy of Modern Physics, and The Australasian Journal of Philosophy.
He teaches philosophy of science courses through the philosophy department as well as classes in the Cornerstone program.
