Jan Evans has worked throughout the country in the areas of costume design and construction for Theatre, Musical Theatre, Opera, and Ballet.
Jan has designed numerous professional productions such as Evita at Starlight Theatre in San Diego, Camelot, And The World Goes ‘Round and Damn Yankees at Porthouse Theatre in Akron, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, 42nd Street, and Evita at Candlelight Dinner Playhouse in Chicago, The Man Who Came to Dinner at Drury Lane Martinique in Chicago, and Rumors at the Forum Theatre, also in Chicago. She coordinated the costumes for productions of The Nutcracker and Cinderella for the Connecticut Ballet and has designed for a number of university theatres including Illinois State University, Millikin University, Catawba College and North Park College.
Her costume shop management experience includes Barrington Stage Company, Stages St. Louis, and The University of Michigan, where she was able to work with the architects on the design of a state-of-the-art costume shop at the Walgreen Center. Jan managed the costume shop at Candlelight Dinner Playhouse in Chicago and constructed costumes for Drury Lane Oakbrook and The Forum Theatre from that space. The costumes that were constructed for Barrington Theatre Company’s production of The Pirates of Penzance won an award for “The Best of the Berkshires” in 2017, and Candlelight’s productions of Little Me and La Cage Aux Follies won Jeff Awards for Best Costumes.
Jan has worked as a Patternmaker/Draper for such theatres as Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Sarasota Opera, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Porthouse Theatre, and Gaylord Entertainment, which constructed costumes for Theme Parks and entertainment venues such as Fiesta, Texas!, Opryland USA, and The Alabama Theatre in Myrtle Beach.
Jan has a BA degree from Columbia College Chicago in Theatre Design, an MA degree in Theatre History and Theory from Kent State University, and an MFA in Costume Technology also from Kent State. She has certifications in Hair Production and Wig Styling and Setting from DePaul University.
